Being-in-the-world

Between July 20 and August 14, 2023, we implemented the Being-in-the-world project at Saku Secondary School in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania. With the approval of the Temeke District Municipal Council, we empowered 180 students through an intensive programme of sessions on personal development, mental health, and citizenship, whose pedagogical curriculum was carefully aligned with the core messages of the films Kung Fu Panda, Mulan, and The Lion King, screened at the start of each week of classes. This intervention aimed to address the structural challenges facing Tanzanian students, such as low school engagement, gender inequality, physical and psychological violence, and low self-esteem. Activities such as journaling, meditation, and group sharing were coordinated alongside motivational videos and philosophically inspired content. Our goal was to strengthen the emotional and psychological well-being of young people, encouraging them to pursue their true potential and discover new strategies for becoming the main protagonists of their own lives.
